Acharya Aruni was his maternal grandfather, also his parents were both Vedic students at Acharya Aruni's school. <br /> <br />2 His father was a famed scholar and sage, who explained the meanings of various teachings to Ashtavakra when he was still in his mother’s womb. <br /> <br />3 Rishi Ashtavakra had studied and acquired mastery in all the important Vedic disciplines in the fatal stage.<br /> <br />4 Once, while transmitting such teachings, his father made a mistake, which was indicated by the unborn infant. The father was agitated by the interruption and cursed the child to be born with a crippled body.<br /> <br />5 Rishi Ashtavakra’s name reflects the eight physical deformities he was born with. The literal meaning of Ashtavakra eight bends. <br /> <br />6 Rishi Ashtavakra soon became a revered sage as well as a celebrated character in the epic tales and Puranas. <br /> <br />7 Ashtavakra Mahakavya is an epic poem that presents the narrative of the Rishi Ashtavakra which is found in the Hindu scriptures.<br /> <br />8 Astavakra Samhita or Asthavakra Gita was authored by Rishi Ashtavakra, which comprises 20 chapters, that included dialogues exchanged between Maharaja Janak and Rishi Ashtavakra. <br /> <br />9 Ashtavakra Gita was born out of the spiritual conversation that results in the self-realisation of the enlightened king of Mithila.<br /> <br />10 So this was the story of an incredible Guru who had a crippled body.
